The Power of an Adept Storyteller at Your Side

Seasoned attorneys know: there’s no better way to succeed in a trial than to have an accomplished storyteller on the legal team—a professional who can forge powerful, emotional connections with clients, jury members, and witnesses.  Someone whose participation can make all the difference in developing the right story and making sure it is being told throughout the entire trial process.

Listening skills, empathy, and the ability to unlock a powerful story don’t come naturally to many people.  To Nicci Unsicker, they do.

Nicci’s Path

Nicci had the good fortune of meeting a member of the Diné (Navajo) Nation when she was quite young.  This was the start of her appreciation for the experiences and viewpoints of others.  Through years of friendship with this tribal member, Nicci had many opportunities to listen, empathize, step outside her own background, and unleash her curiosity.

Years later, after graduating from the University of Tulsa College of Law, Nicci was accepted into the Trial Lawyers College.  In this setting, she learned from top trial attorneys, communications experts, and dramatists who volunteer their time to teach others.  She honed her skills in presenting cases with her own voice and style to be the strongest advocate possible for her clients.  Graduates see themselves as warriors with courage and commitment to justice.

TELL THE WINNING STORY

In 2021, Nicci completed the Mastery in Storytelling program through Tell the Winning Story. Tell the Winning Story is a nationally-known program created by Jesse Wilson. Nicci and three other attorneys completed this year-long program, working with Jesse to take a deep dive in telling the client’s victor story and the villain’s victor story, ensuring the right story is being told every time. Nicci frequently serves as a guest teacher for Tell the Winning Story workshops and seminars.

TRIAL CONSULTATION

Using the skills developed in the Mastery in Storytelling program, Nicci has assisted attorneys:

  • Discover the client’s story and connect to it,
  • Empower the client and witnesses to tell the right story,
  • Prepare a compelling cross-examination,
  • Frame the case effectively,
  • Confidently handle issues of bias,
  • Navigate fear points,
  • Create a powerful voire dire, and
  • Prepare for depositions.

Nicci knows how important it is to “feel” and “own” a client’s experience, and to bring that level of discovery to the entire courtroom.  To learn more about how she might assist you with your cases, give her a call at 505-675-1812, or fill out our contact form.
